Two more escapees fromthe Beimo jail were recaptured today while a third man is dead, after drowning inthe Waghi river in Jiwaka.
Beththe Correctional Services commissioner Martin Belthazar and minister for CS Jim Samatab have commendedtheir officers inthe Morobe province for their quick action yesterday in recapturing almost half ofthe 44 escapees.
Mr. Simatab assured Lae residents that CS officers andthe police force are doing allthey can to ensurethe remaining escapees are captured. Commissioner Belthazar has appealed to Lae residents and settlers alongthe highways to alert authorities of any suspicious activities or new faces inthe area.
Today’s capture bringsthe number of those recaptured to 22- two dead andthe remaining recovering in hospital from gunshot wounds. Twenty-two ofthe 44 attempted escapees are still at large.
