Brent Tate Encourages Rugby Players to Aim High

by Raphaella Kaore – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

Former North Queensland Cowboy and Australian Kangaroo test player, Brent Tate, was in the country recently.

He had a knee injury and retired after a successful origin two match in September of 2014.

Tate, 32, spoke about the development of rugby league in PNG, saying that having the SP PNG Hunters in the Queensland Cup is a huge step in helping PNG’s sporting development.

He also mentioned that young players should take examples from James Segeyaro and Ray Thompson. Thompson was the former Kumul’s utility and now plays for the North Queensland Cowboys. Segeyaro now plays for Penrith Panthers and was awarded Hooker of the Year at the 2014 Dally M Awards.

Touching on the infrastructure in the country, Brent says the new infrastructure coming up in anticipation for the Games is an opportunity for rugby league players and a positive outlook.

The Australian NRL Sports Ambassador is anticipating educating PNGRFL players to qualify for the NRL.
