Blackhawks to provide visual search for missing helicopter

The Australian Defence Force is assisting a Rescue Coordination Centre. Australia request to assist PNG emergency authorities in the search for Hevilift’s Bell 206 helicopter near Mt Hagen last Friday.

The Combined Joint Task Force currently situated in Port Moresby for the PNG election support is now tasked to assist two Blackhawk helicopters and additional personnel were deployed to the area today.

The Australian Army Blackhawks will provide a visual search of the area where the helicopter went missing. An aero-medical evacuation team, additional observers and a downed aircraft recovery team will also assist.

The Black Hawks will be used to assist in the search to provide relief for civilian search aircraft currently involved in the task.  

The ADF support was requested by RCC Australia today after a formal request from PNG emergency authorities this morning.
