Bigger 2016 for Sports in PNG

By Dion Kombeng – EMTV Sports, Port Moresby

2015 has been a big sporting year for Papua New Guinea, hosting the XV Pacific Games on our shores.

With major developments in sporting facilities throughout the city of Port Moresby, the country is prepared for a bigger, better 2016.

The 2015 Pacific Games earlier this year, saw world class sporting facilities emerge throughout the city.

From the new-look Sir John Guise Stadium, to the newly built Taurama Aquatic Centre. The nation’s capital boasts some of the best facilities in the Region.

2015 also came with massive sporting announcements, with the country to play host to the 2016 FIFA under 20 Womens World Cup and to be co-host to the 2017 Rugby League World Cup with Australia and New Zealand.

Next year is set to be an exciting sporting year for Papua New Guinea, with the National Football Stadium to be completed early next year, before local rugby league competitions commence.

Now athletes have the opportunity to compete on proper facilities at world standard. Which is exciting, our own athletes may be able to perform to a higher standard with quality facilities available.
