Besta FC Prove Unbeatable Against Madang FC

by Scott Waide – EM TV Sport, Lae

Besta FC has proven a tough side to beat after downing Madang FC 2-nil Northern Confederation competition of the NSL.

In the first five minutes Besta FC and Madang appeared equally matched with a few close calls on each side. But Besta seemed the more dominant.

Madang broke through Besta’s defence several times only to be stopped by a determined wall of red and yellow.

A sloppy effort by Besta Striker, Giwi Simon, let a possible goal slip through their fingers.

Later, there was more ball possession by Madang. An opportunity awarded to Madang FC came close to putting the first goal on the score board.  But with goal keeper, Gibson Jimmy’s eye smack bang on the ball, nothing could get past.

Madang had more possession and kept pushing past the FC pushing past halfway mark. But Besta continued to maintain a strong defence.

Simon Giwi again proved devastating near the Madang goal. But with limited support, his magic fell short of its intended purpose.

Another shot by Besta’s Jason Farock was too high and another opportunity was missed.

Near the end of the first half, Madang brought the ball again close the Besta goal mouth but with their ranks they stretched coupled with a lack of cohesiveness Besta’s classic defence kicked in neutralising the threat.

There were errors by Besta that gave Madang opportunities which were again missed.

The strong offensive by Madang putting Besta FC under pressure had no effect.  Simon Giwi again devastating. Nailing a shot smack bang on half time.

Second half and after a yellow card to yellow card to Madang’s   Samuel Kini, Madang came back with a vengeance. A strong attack put Besta under pressure but the Lae boys  remained unmoved.

Another shot by Madang’s number 13, Kiwa Tepo missed the mark. Tepo was clearly disappointed with himself. This was followed by a corner opportunity missed yet again by Besta FC with high shot.

Minutes later, Sammy Rufus, shook the house when he came too close for comfort into the Madang defence. But he missed that goal that could have put them ahead by two early in the game.

Madang’s struck back but the shot was too weak to make any impact.

In the dying minutes, Besta gave it their all scoring just before the final whistle in a 2-nil finish.
