Beon Scale Down

Madang’s Beon Correctional Facility has scaled down its operations last month due to transport problems.

Beon Jail Commander Inspector, Andrew Polis, says they are now putting more priority to doing court runs for prisoners than any other runs for the institution.

Polis says they have decided to scale down as the institution has only one vehicle to use.

Jail Commander Inspector, Andrew Polis, says Beon cannot operate using just one vehicle.

And it needs the support of stakeholders, both the provincial and national governments and everyone to support its operation.

“I am now calling on members leaders elected members of all the districts in madang if they can come in and assist, by using their DSIP and PSIP funds for law and justice sector to assist us”

Last Friday Inspector Polis, had announced its decision to halt operations at the end of the month of September due to logistical problems.

With just one vehicle and two hired vehicles and it is a challenge for the institute to carry out all its operational runs without any problems.

“ when those two hired vehicles are taken back they’ll be no vehicle for us to run the operations”

For now Beon has cut down on most of its runs and has given priority to court runs and other operational runs given its importance.
