Exciting times ahead for the sport of Basketball, as players from Lae, Madang, Chimbu and Mt. Hagen assemble in Port Moresby for a training camp.
The training camp is conducted underthe watchful eyes of Joel Khalu from Mackay, Queensland and assisted by High Performance expert Aaron Alsop.
The final selection camp of 35 men and 24 women’s tarted last Friday withthe aim of trimmingthe team down tothe final 10 for the Pacific Basketball Championships in New Zealand in Novermber.
Joel Khalu based in Mackay, Queensland has had a long standing relationship withthe Basketball Federation oPNG through current president Nick Daroa.
Khalu saysthe camp is about layingthe foundation and goals for basketball downthe line.
Coach Khalu says this isthe building block to 2015 andthe aim ofthe camp is to assessthe level of skillsthe players have before instilling his philosophies as a coach.
According to Coach KhaluPNG has high local talent and with emphasis in defensive play, basketball has potential to reach greater heights.
