PANGU to Work with “Marginalised” Coalition Partners

By Bridgette Komatep – EM TV, Port Moresby

Deputy Opposition Leader and Pangu Party Leader, Sam Basil says he will be working closely with various political parties, which he described as “marginalised“, to form the next government.

Mr Basil said, in this government, almost 17 per cent of the current members of parliament have been implicated for criminal and leadership cases to answer for. This he says, questions the integrity of political parties and coalition in this government.

The nineth parliament has seen some political party leaders and MP’s implicated with pending cases, said Basil, while some are already serving time for their crimes.

He said, having political parties in the Opposition should not be seen as a hindrance to service delivery.

The Bulolo MP said that he will work with marginalised coalition partners of the current regime, to lobby into the 2017 National Elections.

The political parties include Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party or THE Party, National Alliance, PNG Party and People’s Labour Party, among others.

Yesterday, Pangu Party announced its candidate for the Pomio by-election, Leo Katal.

Basil emphasised that although there are disadvantages in terms of funding, it will not stop them from forming a government that will uphold its party integrity and deliver much needed services.

Attempts to get comments from Prime Minister, Peter O’Neill, has been unsuccessful, as he is out of the country.
