Baki: Security is Everyone’s Responsibility

Police Commissioner, Gari Baki, has called on the public to make security their responsibility during the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup to be held next month.

Commissioner Baki said it’s the first time that Papua New Guinea is hosting an international sporting event like this, and the country’s image lies on how the people support the tournament.

Commissioner Baki said like the Pacific Games, security belongs to everyone and it’s everyone’s responsibility. He added that the people of PNG are the only people that can stand up to the world and tell them that PNG is a united, independent country and that image rests on how we all support the FIFA tournament.

The Commissioner further stated that the tournament will be held when school students are on holiday and encouraged the students, and the public, to attend the matches.

The security operations order has had input from the National Intelligence Office, and other security partners, to ensure the safety and security of the fans, international media and teams that will be in Port Moresby during the three-week tournament.

The first phase of the three phase operations commences at the end of the month where close to 200 women police officers will be participating in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup security operations.
