Baki Dismayed at Court Order

Commissioner of Police, Gari Baki, is dismayed at a court order granting a stay on his decision to dismiss senior police detectives heading the fraud squad.

“This is unheard of in my 41 years in the Police Force,” Commissioner Baki said in reference to the Court granting stay orders on the dismissals of Thomas Eluh and Timothy Gitua.

He said Section 27 of the Police Force Act 1998, states that “The Commissioner’s decision in respect to the finding of guilt and in respect to penalty for serious disciplinary charges is final”.

Baki says, he will be seeking legal advice to appeal the granting of the stay order.

Meanwhile, the opposition’s comments on the issue, have drawn the ire of Attorney General Ano Pala, who issued a warning to MPs against trying to influence Judges.

Government Whip, and Member for Telefomin, Solan Mirisim, also released a statement this afternoon, calling on Deputy Opposition Leader, Sam Basil, to stop misleading the nation, and to represent his people by engaging in policy discussion, and debate.
