Australia’s Governor General Quentin Beyce arrived inthe country yesterday.
And her first job was to hand over climate change data to Prime Minister Peter O’Neill on behalf ofthe Australian Government.
Australia’s Governor General arrived as scheduled and was accorded allthe protocol befitting her role.
She later met our governor general at government house. Later at Air Ways hotel she presented climate change data on behalf ofthe Australian Government to the Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
The high-resolution elevation data onthe north coast of Papua New Guineawas collected by Geoscience Australia andthe Department of Climate Changend Energy Efficiency, atthe request ofthe Government of Papua New Guinea
The data will be used to plan climate change adaptation in Papua New Guinea It can also be used to plan construction sit’s, monitor land subsidence, determine pipeline routes and detect changes in vegetation growth. Future work will build Papua New Guinearsquo;s capacity to usethe data.
The Australian GG will be in East New Beitain Province where she will visit a number of locations includingthe Rabaul War cemetery.
Her visit coincides with ANZAC Daycommemorations. She will be inthe country till Friday.
