The Autonomous Region of Bougainville has been the chosen for the Pacific Partnership 2015 program.

The United States largest hospital medical ship – Mercy, has been engaged to provide lifesaving surgeries and health care.

Recently, the United States Pacific Fleet medical team, led by Dr William Arden, visited the autonomous region and surveyed potential areas for US assistance. Identified sites are Arawa and Buka.

According to Dr Arden, their primary mission is to provide humanitarian aid and disaster relief. Activities range from medical, dental, veterinarian care to construction projects and crisis response training.

Local health workers will work alongside 12 thousand medical experts from the United States, to enhance capacity.

Something new, is the veterinarian clinic for animals, to diagnose and prevent diseases.

The program will be a great opportunity to expand people-to-people ties with the US and deliver benefits for the people of Bougainville.

Consultations are now open at the Arawa Health Centre and Buka General Hospital.
