ANZ Launches Visa Debit Card in PNG

ANZ customers in Papua New Guinea can now own visa debit cards.

The launch of the card in Port Moresby this afternoon was attended by Grand Chief, Sir Michael Somare, who has been an ANZ customer for over 30 years.

Sir Michael was honoured by being the first out of four customers to be issued the new ANZ product.

The others include Bank of PNG CEO, Loi Bakani; Air Niugini’s Chairman, Sir Frederick Reiher, and ANZ PNG CEO himself Mark Baker.

Baker said the key feature of the card is added security which sets it apart from other similar products in the market.

The card is equipped with an EMV chip.

“This is the first card in PNG to have this kind of technology and it really helps with preventing electronic fraud which is a global issue,” Baker said during the launch.

Baker said the card is an international access card which will be accepted online, over the phone, overseas and in shops.

ANZ customers can now register for their visa debit card at their nearest outlets.
