226 support staff of Angau General Hospital in Lae have conducted a secret ballot in support of their colleagues nationwide to go on strike.
The PNG Health Support Workers Association are demanding better pay and benefits.
Angau support workers conducted the secret ballot on Friday after collecting the ballot boxes from the electoral office.
Tioti says, a letter has been circulated to all the sister hospitals informing hospital CEOs of the action the health support workers are taking.
At 3pm on Friday, a declaration was made and sent to Port Moresby for the final decision to be made by the mother organization.
The hospital staff are backing their colleagues to halt hospital services after their claims that were put forward to the Department of Personnel Management in September last year were left unanswered.
The workers want the government to meet their claims and to compensate them for increased hours of work.
