Aki Refused Bail on Willful Murder Charge

by Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News,  Port Moresby

The National Court has refused sports Administrator Billy Aki’s application for bail today.

Presiding judge Salee Koeget said the medical grounds presented by Aki’s lawyers were invalid. Aki was charged and arrested  last week for the willful murder of his wife.

Aki was arrested and charged for the willful murder of his wife a day after New Year’s Eve at the Kone Tigers oval. Aki’s refusal of bail will see him remain at Bomana, pending a fresh bail application by his lawyers.

Meanwhile, relatives of Aki’s wife have refused a compensation presented by Aki’s relatives.

“Aki’s brothers came with K20,000 compensation but we said we will not accept that money”, said a family member.

Aki attacked his wife at the Kone Tigers oval after arguing with her over money.

She was rushed to the Gerehu Hospital but later taken to Port Moresby General and died two days later.

“Mr Aki beat her up with timber and she fell unconscious. After that he threw her down the stairs”, an eyewitness told EMTV.
