Air Niugini Resumes Flights To Simbu

It is good news for travellers who fly in and out of Kundiawa, as Air Niugini has resumed flights to Simbu province.

Simbu Governor Noah Kool this afternoon presented a cheque of

K300, 000 from the District Services Improvement Program funds to ensure the resumption.

Air Niugini flights into the province were suspended since December last year because of runway safety concerns.

The presentation means that the people of Simbu province can travel at ease to and from Kundiawa.

Governor Noah Kool, who was accompanied by Kundiawa airport manager Robert Micah, said he wanted to keep his end of the bargain and hopes Air Niugini increases the number of flights from 2 to 3.

The funding of K300, 000 is the first half payment of K600, 000 to subsidise Air Niugini flights into the province.

Similar arrangeMen’s to subsidise flights into other provinces are available for other Provincial Governors to optimise.  Currently, the Enga provincial government is under similar arrangeMen’s with Air Niugini. Southern Highlands Province is expected to follow suit.

Air Niugini operates twice weekly service to Kundiawa every Wednesday and Saturday.
