Agwi ordered to pay bail for Contempt of Court

Defence Force Commander Beigadier General Francis Agwi and anther senior officer were ordered bythe Waigani National Court to pay a K1000 bail each for Contempt of Court.

This followstheir failure to appear in court yesterday to answer to anther Contempt of Court Order againstthem, filed by anther officer inthe force.

Justice Sevua said this wouldn’t bethe case of advicetheir clients correctly on court orders.

He said it istheir “duty to obey court orders until such timethe orders are set aside or become invalid”.

The case is between former and current senior officers ofthPNG Defence Force for continuous defying of several orders issued bythe courts.

The Plaintiff Colonel Joseph Mark Kewa brought Agwi to court for defyingthe court’s orders in 2006 to “not evict him from his house or cease salary payments”.

Colonel Kewa has been offthe payroll for the last fourteen months.

The Court has suggested for both parties to abide bythe court orders and solve it as an administrative issue.

The matter returns tothe courts onthe 29th of this month for a substantive hearing which is to reinstate him intothe Force.
