Acting Provincial Administrator’s Response To Contractors on Unpaid Claims

A response was given yesterday regarding outstanding claims of Morobe Provincial Government contractors alleged to be more than K7 million.

Acting Morobe Provincial Administrator, Sheila Pati Harou, addressed the group of contractors before a closed meeting with the leaders of the group.

After the meeting, the Chairman of the group advised the contractors that the Provincial Government will sort them out within this month.

The Acting Provincial Administrator yesterday responded to this group of contractors outside the Provincial Administration Building.

These contractors, who began their contracted services with the Provincial Government, were not paid in full since 2013.

They were given a response after Harou met with the group leaders yesterday.

Harou says the contractors are service providers and have rights to their outstanding claims.

She said proper investigations will be conducted into the management, records of contracts and government decisions before this month, in order to sort the contractors’ outstanding claims.

The Acting Provincial Administrator said her officers will work closely to resolve the issue by this month.

She’s calling on the contractors to support her and to respect the decisions made by the authorities.

The contractors are demanding the Provincial Government to sort them out before next year.
