By Jack Lapauve Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

People of Alotau now will enjoy the use of a new stadium opened recently in Milne Bay. The new stadium was named after Alotau’s favorite son, the late Abona Gaige.

Alotau MP, Charles Abel said the new stadium is a step towards developing other sporting codes. The small town of Alotau has seen the new establishment of sporting facilities in abundance over the past four years.

Local sporting codes have developed raw talents both from town competitions and LLG games.

Netball and soccer are two sporting codes now taking the lead in the province. But other codes like volleyball, touch 7s and now the introduction of rugby league will be in 2016.

The new Abona Gaige Stadium will be under the management of the Urban Town Pastors Fraternal. The stadium was built under joint funding by Alotau District and the PNG Sports Foundation.

Vice Minister for Sports Labi Amaiu, was in Alotau to open the stadium with Alotau MP, Charles Abel.
