Abel highlights achievements of National Planning Department

National Planning Minister, Charles Abel, has this week continued to emphasise and highlight the roles and achievements of the National Planning Department from rural to the national level.

This follows a final week of Parliament, where questions were raised by members of the Opposition on particular financial aspects of the 2017 National Budget.

The development outcomes report, which will be made available to the general public, clarifies the Department’s total expenses and administration; its roles in key sectors, such as Education, Health, Law & Justice and economy, among others; and summarises the Medium Term Development Plan 1 & 2.

In terms of strategic partnerships, the Department of National Planning has engaged in a range of partnership programs with organisations that work together with the department to achieve favorable outcomes. Included on the list of partners is: Marie Stopes, providing family planning assistance; and water, sanitation and hygiene programs aided by the European Union, Asia Development Bank, OK Tedi Mining Ltd., Newcrest Mining Ltd. and New Britain Palm Oil Ltd.

Minister Abel also stressed on the importance of addressing the people’s needs starting from the rural level, in order to realise the effectiveness of the services delivered by the national government.
