Tony Abbott looks set to keep much ofthe asylum seeker deal Labor struck with Papua New Guineaas he opens talks withthe country.
Nine Network reported thatthe prime minister-elect have spoken tPNG Prime Minister Peter O'Neill aboutthe continued processing of asylum seekers on Manus Island.
Abbot told Nine Network that his government will makethe most ofthe arrangements whichthe former government put in place withPNG.
He said it'’s an important element inthe range of policies that are necessary to stopthe boats.
Mr Abbot saidthe coalition'’s border protection plan, called Operation Sovereign Berders, will officially begin whenthe new government is sworn in next week.
He claimsthe policy has brokenthe people smuggling business model.
