Sakange Villagers Ask for Roads in Nabak LLG, Morobe

A villager in Sakange village in ward 1 area of Nabak LLG in Morobe province says most government services are yet to reach his village.

James Kaik says, successive governments in the past 4 decades have made commitments to build roads but have never kept their promises.

Kaik is appealing to the National Government to help them build a road to their village.

Like many other remote villages in Papua New Guinea, Sakange village is located up in the mountains among rugged terrain and big rivers.

The villagers call themselves “lasples”. As the only government service they know of are two elementary schools and a primary school. The schools were established in 2005.

An old airstrip and an aid post located at the back of this mountain are not operating any more.

Most of the health workers and teachers have left due to its remoteness.

The nearest station to get medical treatment is a 6-hour walk away.

Migere Wenge Primary, the only primary school in the village celebrated the opening of a new double classroom building that will be built.

Parents of students attending the school will carry the building materials from the Peter Ryan road junction, also taking many hours, to bring the materials to the school.
