Papua New Guinea’s biggest of all times vocal competition, the Vocal Fusion gets tougher and more competitive as the contestants take on stage every week at the host venue Cosmopolitan in Port Moresby, battling to win the dream prize, the brand new 2016 Toyota Hilux.
After the successful final cuts two weeks ago, a total of 40 skilled and talented vocalists were downsized to only 15 by the vocal fusion judging panel.
At the top 8 and top 10 competitions which were held on 28th September and 5th October respectively, a total of 7 contestants left vocal fusion season 4. Of the seven, two of Kokopo’s best contestants Mary Midian and Peter Leong left this week.
Trends Beauty International, a sponsor for EMTV’s Vocal Fusion on the night they were to be called off-stage presented them with gift packs as a token of appreciation for their participation so far in this season’s competition.
Embracing and Promoting PNG Music and Culture
Whilst finding and exposing talents in Papua New Guinea, Vocal Fusion also embraces PNG Music and culture.
The Top 10 competition showed 15 contestants singing PNG Legendary songs of the mid 90’s.
It was indeed a spectacular moment in the vocal fusion season as contestants proudly take on the stage with their traditional costumes making it a truly a Papua New Guinean performance.
The cheering crowd and judges were entertained throughout the night by PNG’s younger generation of musicians, bringing to life the PNG Music Legends’ voices.
Vocal Fusion, being vigorous in promoting young talents, also encourages the modern generation of PNG musicians to showcase and be proud of their tradition, as evident in the Top 10 competition.
Vocal Fusion Season 4 Top 8
Vocal Fusion Season 4 Top 8 in the meantime, has eight successful contestants who made it through from Top 10. They are: Judith White; Sybil Taule; Dylan Au; and the duet – Nau & Jay from the Port Moresby auditions; Annette Poipoi and McSteve Polly from Mt Hagen Auditions; and Bridie Vere Mays and Junior Elizah from Madang auditions.
Joining the Top 8 in the competition were two Wild Cards, Port Moresby’s Robert Vaso and Kokopo’s Marymagdalene Bolokon.
Belting out reggae songs in this week’s Reggae Fusion night, the contestants are now at the mercy of the public.
Significantly, the contestants chances of getting into the Top 6 depend on votes from fans received by polls conducted online on Vocal Fusion Facebook page or through Bmobile/Vodafone text messages.
Being given the opportunity to participate in the selection processes of their favourite contestant, fans in Port Moresby, Mt Hagen, Madang and Kokopo can go online or vote through text messages to keep their best-loved contestant in the race.
As this season’s competition gets tougher, supportive fans’ attendance at the show is necessary as it provides moral support and encourages the contestants to give their best in the performances.
Fans in Port Moresby have turned out in numbers at the live recordings at the Cosmopolitan to cheer on their favourite contestants as they took stage at last week’s Top 8 competition; the same is expected this Wednesday, October 12.
