Madang Sea Patrol Reformation

Madang police will see a new unit called the ‘Madang Water Rats’ specifically operating on the sea. This follows the presentation of a new banana boat and engine to Madang police by the Madang Chamber of Commerce today.

President of the Madang Chamber of Commerce, Kevin Murray, said that the boat is to help ensure there is a police presence on the seas, just as there is on land to protect business houses from robberies.

“Madang police used to patrol the sea but it hasn’t been able to do so lately. Therefore the Madang Chamber of Commerce is happy to donate this boat to enable the police to patrol the sea once more and protect the business houses,” Murray said.

The Madang Provincial Police Commander, Superintendent Jacob Singura, upon receiving the boat’s key said that he’s thankful to the authorities involved because this will now revive the Madang police sea patrol.

“This is another stepping stone to ease the pressure in our work as police, given the lack of logistics support, therefore I’m thankful to the Madang Chamber of Commerce and all those who have contributed,” said Singura.

According to Murray, the K18,000 boat and engine was bought with the help of Sumkar MP, Ken Fairweather, who chipped in K10,000 towards its purchase.
