In the lead up to the 2015 Port Moresby Pacific Games, a coaching workshop was held in Port Moresby on Saturday, 14 March.
The aim of the workshop was to enhance the understanding of the roles and responsibilities of coaches; and how best they can assist athletes to perform at the games.
Team PNG coaches from respective sporting codes, that will be staged during the games, were present at the workshop.
The meet was second of its kind, following the National Coaching Conference held in January this year.
Managers and coaches went through upskilling on the management of athletes’; focusing on key areas which included roles and responsibilities, dieting, physiotherapy, among others.
The Games Organising Committee, through the High Performance Training Centre, conducted a session for coaches on ‘mental fitness of athletes’. The mental condition of athletes is just as important as their physical fitness.
Members of the High Performance Training Centre are working with team PNG athletes’ and coaches, through various avenues.
With the games approaching, team PNG, as the host nation, will have the largest contingent of about 800 athletes and officials. In order for athletes to perform, coaches will play a vital role in assisting them to produce results.
