Discussions on Education System at National Education Conference

The 2015 National Education Conference kicked off on a high note yesterday with more emphasis to overhaul Papua New Guinea’s education system.

Speaking to EMTV yesterday, Higher Education Minister, Malakai Tabar, said the system is hampered by many constraints.

Minister Tabar said underlining issues such as policy, curriculum, teachers’ welfare and development are just some concerns.

Tabar said such occasion allows for better planning and coordination by all agents to establish a way forward for the next 40 years.

Conference Chairlady, Dr Kelep Malpo, said teachers have been the human resource of the country but their welfares have seen a decline over the years.

Dr Malpo said paper discussions are important to put forward with more collaboration from all stakeholders to create a pathway and establish a more suitable education reform and system for the country.

Participants from all over the country attended both from the private and public sector including retired teachers, former education administrators, school principals, members of parliament and the public.

Higher Education Minister, Malakai Tabar, officially opened the three day event yesterday at the Mark Solon Auditorium at the University of Goroka.

Also present was Acting Secretary for Education, Dr Uke Kombra, and Higher Education Science and Research Professor, Dr David Kavanamur.
