Enga province has been selected as the province in which to build a new Technical College.
On the morning of Tuesday 21 July, Higher National News, Research, Science and Technology Minister, Malakai Tabar, presented a cheque of K3 million to the Enga Provincial Government for this infrastructure.
This will go towards building infrastructures of this institution.
The college will be the first of two Technical Colleges for the western block of the Highlands region.
Minister Tabar said NEC has approved for this institution to serve the region.
“This will provide accessibility for students, equity in ration of boys and girls in technical skills employment and quality education to all,” Tabar said.
Minister Tabar says, it’s not about building new institutions, but establishing a uniform education system for the country.
Enga Governor, Grand Chief Sir Peter Ipatas, said technical skills are vital as the current education system is seeing 75% of Grade 12 students receiving no offer at the end of the year.
“All we want to do is to give equal opportunity to all and cutdown on the number of school children left out after completing Year 12,” Ipatas said.
Governor Ipatas hopes the government will continue to financially support other institutions in Enga as well.
The Enga Governor’said Enga will continue to invest heavily in National News sector.
