Sapias Commends Growth Of Rugby

Throughout the course of mass participation programs in Papua New Guinea, President of the PNGRFU, Richard Sapias, believes in the slow but steady growth of rugby union.

Figures collected over past months have proven that the number of participation has maximized and is showing promising pathways for the future development of the code.

The Pacific in Union program has been an excellent pilot program for development.

Since the inception of the PiU and Get into Rugby programs, President of PNGRFU, Richard Sapias, has confirmed a drastic increase in participation.

In adult rugby alone, numbers have not just tripled in men’s rugby, but have struck interest and doubled in women’s rugby.

Since the inception of women’s rugby in the nation’s capital in 2007, capital rugby union has seen more teams joining and showing interest in all codes of rugby union.

Since coming on board as Palais coach, Elenoa Kunatuba has taken the responsibility under her belt, as development officer of women’s rugby, for the Federation of Oceania Rugby Union to develop the code further.

Despite having minimum cash flow to support the growth of rugby, Sapias commended his team for the never-ending support and assured a bright future for rugby union in Papua New Guinea.
