PNG Pukpuks Fun Day Out With Community

By Lorraine Genia – EM TV Sports, Port Moresby

While on-field preparations are the biggest focus for the PNG Sevens team; actively engaging in community service is also high on the team’s priority, in the hope to build their following for the Games.

The Puma Energy PNG Pukpuks spent today off the field, lending a helping hand to the communities in Port Moresby.

Taking a day off away from training, usually involves time spent at home, however, members of the PNG sevens team, were together as a group, doing something out of the usual.

Assistant Coach Douglas Guise, believes that the team can be able to garner more support through these initiatives

Winger, Butler Morris, said getting involved with the community was also an integral part of the development of the team as a whole.

Support for the Pukpuks has been overwhelming with the team topping an online poll run recently on viewer preferences for the Pacific Games.

With Fiji announcing their intentions to send a full strength squad to the games; Guise has said, selection into the Pukpuks has been about getting the little things right.

Head coach Billy Rapilla, not mincing words, stated that the team still needed to work more on fitness.

The team have the Aroma Coast Sevens in a week’s time and will use the tournament as a final lead-up to the Pacific Games.
