Manus Locals Complete Business Workshop

by Jack Lapauve Jr, EMTV – Port Moresby

There is greater feeling to improve and grow small businesses in Manus Province. This comes as 150 men and women completed a series of small business workshops, in Lorengau recently.

The training created enthusiasm among participants to be entrepreneurs and to contribute meaningfully to the growth and development of the province. The four months of mentoring and training, focused on how to prepare a business plan, investigate business opportunities, set goals, and develop financial management tools, among others.

It was necessarily the window into the business world and the consciousness in running a business.

Last Thursday, the participants received their certificates in three different groups; beginners, inter-mediate, and those that have established businesses.

Facilitator, Marianna Lucki, from the Queensland TAFE College said, participants have grown matured in activities in the tutorial classes. She said their knowledge to start business and be equipped with necessary skills to manage a business has proven alot through their exercise.

Participant, Benjamin Pokarup says, Manus has no extractive industries but if Manusian’s are given such opportunities, they must not take it lightly.

The small business workshop was delivered by the Provincial and Local Level Governments Program, on behalf of the Australian Government. It was facilitated by Queensland TAFE.
