NEC pushes policy for amenities for PLWD

Building Acts and Building regulation will be reviewed to make access for people living with disability, a standard requirement.

This comes as the National Executive Council endorsed the National Policy on Disability. The announcement was made recently by Community Development Minister, Delilah Gore.

Minister Gore said PLWD’s are part of the community and the government is keen to push this Policy through, especially in line with relevant articles of the UN Convention, on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Minister Delilah Gore says, the review will proceed with directives to Provincial Building Boards to implement requirements for disability inclusive provisions.

The 2015 to 2025 National Disability Policy was a decision on the 7th of May to remove barriers and make their rights real.

There will also be an establishment of Orthotic and Prosthetic centres, as well as physiotherapy services, in all hospitals.

Health services will not be the only provided service for people living with disability, a breakthrough is for them to access special formal education.

The policy will be tabled in the next parliament sitting.
