Service Delivery Focus

By Fabian Hakalits – EM TV, Port Moresby

Public servants throughout the country resumed duties today with the challenge to perform and deliver to the people’s expectations.

Personnel Management Department Secretary John Kali says the focus for this year and onwards, is to improve service delivery.

The Public Service Management Act 2014 calls for performance and leadership within the public service machinery and the key indicator is to achieve results.

Public servants, beginning with leaders; departmental heads, chief executive officers, provincial and district administrators, must perform to people’s expectations and implement the National Government’s aim of service delivery.

Mr Kali said the public service must transform and act. Critical areas of improvement are on leadership, performance management system and individual productivity.

Training is another target for this year, and as required by the new law, public servants will be empowered, with new knowledge and skills, to effectively carry out their call of duties.

Provincial governments must support and allow staff to enhance their knowledge and skills through competency training.

Meanwhile, public servants have been warned to perform in their duties as appropriate penalties, will be laid on those failing to comply.
