Export Rugby Championship

by Dion Kombeng – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

Following the recent partnership announcement between the SP Export Lager brand and Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union (PNGRFU), the newly established Export Rugby Championship will take place later this year.

12 provincial teams will be taking part in the new rugby championship.

The Export Rugby Championship will see teams compete in three different conferences: Northern, Southern and New Guinea Islands.

PNG Rugby Football Union General Manager, Frank Genia, said the competition will be similar to the current one in place, but will see a slightly different format implemented.

Each of the teams will compete for a spot in the finals, using a round robin format with all matches to be played in one location.

Port Moresby will play host to the Southern Region Conference, Rabaul for the New Guinea Islands and Lae for the Northern Conference.
