Bennett is England’s New Coach

By Elijah Lavett – EM TV Sport, Port Moresby

While there had been speculation on Wayne Bennett joining the PNG Kumuls following the resignation of Mal Meninga, it has been made known to the entire rugby league fraternity, that his appointment is to replace Steven McNamara to take up the role as English Coach for the four nations series, and the Rugby League World Cup.

Despite Bennett being hired as England’s coach, his role as the Brisbane Broncos coach still remains.

England’s Rugby Football League chief executive, Nigel Wood, said Wayne Bennett is quite rightly regarded as the outstanding coach of this generation, and is pleased to have him in charge of England.

The England team has made great progress over the last few years, and now have world-class players across all positions.

Bennett has been impressed with the ambition and energy demonstrated by the team, and looks forward to working with a group of players he believes will make it on to the international stage.

He will now go up against New Zealand Coach, Stephen Kearney and Mal Meninga, the man who beat him to the current Kangaroos coaching position, when England hosts the Four Nations Series in October and November.
