Students Urged to Return to Class

By Meleasie Goviro – EM TV News, Port Moresby

General Secretary of the Trade Union Congress, John Paska, says current student boycott of classes threaten the country’s democracy.

He is urging students to return to classes until all legal processes were exhausted.

Paska stressed that unless the Prime Minister has been pronounced guilty by a proper court and still refuses to step aside; student demonstrations at this point challenged the basic legal principle that presumes every individual, innocent unless proven guilty.

Meanwhile, he has called on workers throughout the country not to join the protest, saying any demonstration is legally baseless and employers have every right to terminate those who refuse to comply.
