Member for Tari-Pori, James Marape, has called on his Provincial Administrator to remove public servants and small businessmen involved in fuelling tribal fights in the electorate.
Minister Marape said the tribal feuds have cost the district 30 per cent of its DSIP allocation since 2012. These are crucial funds that’should have been used for development.
Marape was responding to a report in one of the dailies that’said the MP’s electorate of Tari was under siege from tribal warriors.
The MP was disappointed about the report, but acknowledged that there are tribal conflicts on the fringe of Tari town.
Marape called on his Provincial Administrator to take a hands-on approach in dealing with those who support these tribal hostilities.
The minister said 30 per cent of his DSIP has been allocated to stopping these fights since 2012; the same money that other districts in the country are investing in health, education, infrastructure and other development.
Minister Marape said he will not tolerate tribal fights and his focus is now on protecting the state’s properties.
