MOU Draft to Benefit Remote Villages Along Border

Members of the Goilala District Development Authority and Bulolo District Development Authority held their first joint District Development Authority meeting on Monday.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was drafted for both parties to agree on a joint district border arrangement.

The meeting was to look at ways of delivering government services and sharing resources between villages along the border areas of Goilala and Bulolo.

Wau Bulolo MP, Sam Basil, together with Goilala MP, William Samb, brought their District Development Authority’s together yesterday to discuss terms and understandings of how they can deliver government services to the remote and inaccessible villages along the border of Goilala and Wau.

Basil said people along the border have been neglected for more than a decade.

“It is a conflict situation of where they are in this imaginary line, so that is why we are doing this.

“The MOU that we will pass is to share resources along the border. If there is a disaster along the border, we are able to assist each other,” Basil said.

This signing will ensure that there is legal agreement between the two districts in the area.

It will cover a total of 16 villages in Bulolo and 15 in Goilala who will receive basic services such as road links, education and health services.

Legal advisers are currently looking over the drafted MOU.
