NRI to Create Knowledge Hub in PNG

By Stanley Ove Jr – EM TV News, Port Moresby

The development challenges facing Papua New Guinea are profound, with many issues and problems long-standing despite substantial efforts from the government and other stakeholders to fix these.

The National Research Institute (NRI) spoke of these challenges today, as it moves to create the first knowledge hub for Papua New Guinea.

NRI Director, Dr. Charles Yala, said the knowledge hub will bring together a community of organisations, thought leaders, researches, academics and government to generate, process, store, transferring and apply knowledge for effective nation building.

Currently, NRI is planning on eight research programs for its knowledge hub, and the development of these programs will aim to inquire, inform and influence public policies.

NRI is also planning to transform its Waigani Campus into a precinct that is self-sustaining.

“Despite being a public administration, our ultimate goal is self-sufficiency where revenues from the hub will support NRI research activities,” Dr. Yala said.
