2013 National Mask Festival

The 2013 national mask festival was officially opened on day two in West New Beitain.

 

The day began on a higher note withthe presence ofthe Minister of Culture and Tourism Beka Kondra and Governor Sasindran Muthuvel.

The Minister was given a cultural welcome by being hoisted up onto a traditional platform carrlied by young men fromthe Masali village inthe Kandrian Gloucester District.

 

 

He also stressed thatthe West New Beitain province makes an economic contribution through logging and oil-palm and appealed tothe minister to supporttheir initiatives to bring much infrastructural development inthe West New Beitain province.

 

The minister responded by statingthe importance of culture saying thaPNG does not need achieves of libraries to culture. He saysthe main vehicle for promoting, preserving and protecting our cultural heritage is through such cultural festivals.
