Two people are dead as two warring tribes in the Hulia area of Hela clashed last night.
The two deceased were laid beside the road as women, children and men mourn their death.
This morning, the main road to Southern Highlands was packed with mourners dancing with weapons along the road.
The dead are youths between the age of 18 and 20.
As of last night, the road leading to Southern Highlands was closed but quick police intervention saw the roads being open again.
Village elders in the area have been tasked to keep peace and maintain law and order in the area.
Police are monitoring the situation with rumors of payback killings are common.
Police and PNG Defence personnel, engaged in the State of Emergency Operation, are on high alert as the area is known for its tribal fights and possession of high powered rifles.
Police in Hela are yet to release a formal statement.
