102 and Still at School, America’s Oldest Teacher

By Kiwiana Ngabung – EM TV Online

America’s oldest teacher recently turned 102 years old. Agnes Zhelesnik, a teacher at The Sundance School since she was 81 years old, is known by everyone there as “Granny”.

Working 35 hours a week, Granny teaches sewing and cooking to children in pre-kindergarten to fifth grade.

“This is something that they’re going to use for the rest of their lives.
“They’re not going to have it just for today. You’ll be surprised how they are going to remember it when they get older.”

Before her teaching career she was a homemaker and her daughter an art teacher at the same school. Her daughter was the one who asked if she’d be interested in teaching at Sundance…and the rest is history.

And she’s still healthy; she laughs and says her doctor said her heart is like a 40-year old’s.

Even the school’s principal, W.J O’Reilly expresses great delight in Mrs Zhelesnik’s presence at Sundance.
“Granny is a beam of light. This gentle strength and warmth that emanates from her at all times.
“And we have this incredible opportunity to be in her presence and to be able to learn from her,” O’Reilly says.

The adorable yet strong woman doesn’t plan on leaving soon either. She told myCentralJersey, she’ll remain for as long as she can and make the children happy as good she can.

She has a simple yet strong advice for people who want to live to 102; “Just be happy with what you do and you have to like what you’re doing,” she tells The 74Million.
