The National Health Department’s 100% kit system will be phased out this year as it has lacked consistency over time.
This was announced at the recent National Economical Fiscal Commission, Regional Workshop in Lae.
According to National Health Department’s, Navy Mulou, this is the final year of implementing the temporary 100% Health Kit System and will be phased out because it has failed to produce intended results.
A health indicator is that all health facilities to be equipped with all necessary drugs and medical supplies on a monthly basis.
However, that’s not been the case in Papua New Guinea, because distributions were done by private supplies or contractors.
Mulou said that the new approach is to strengthen the pull system, to be effective and efficient.
All provincial transit stores will be managed by qualified pharmacists. 18 provincial transit stores have already been constructed with four more.
Mulou said this transition will be appropriated in next year’s budget to ensure medical drugs reach most rural areas in the country.
