Villagers Call for Motu-Koita People and NCD Residents to Unite to Stop Police Brutality

By Stanley Ove Jnr – EM TV, Port Moresby

It’s been two days since the fatal clash between NCD police and Hanuabada villagers that has left two men dead.

While tension at the village continues, locals say they will not rest until justice is served on those responsible for the alleged shooting of Nicholas Rarua and Toka Gaudi.

They are appealing to all Motu-Koita people and city residents to join in the fight to put a stop to police brutality and violence.

Hanuabada villagers are now calling on the Motu-Koita Assembly and the Motu-Koita people to stand together to seek justice for the two deaths.

They say they want nothing but full cooperation from all village leaders and Motu-Koita Assembly Chairman, Miria Ikupu. Today hundreds gathered in the village centre, to discuss the way forward in the midst of tragedy.

Lohia Samuel, president of the Motu-Koitabu Way Forward, said Hanuabada is not a settlement and should not be treated like one by the police. Samuel said a protest will be held in the coming days and evidence will be presented to the courts.

He then described how the two men were gun downed by the police. Samuel also appealed to city residents to support them in their fight to stop Police Brutality in the city.

Meanwhile roads blocks are still on from Hanuabada Village right to Baruni Village.
