By Rayon Lakingu – EMTV News, Port Moresby

Chuave MP and Minister for Trade, Commerce and Industry, Wera Mori, has given his independence message to the people.

In a media conference last Thursday (September 13), he said we have come 43 years as a country, and the best thing that has happened is the APEC Leaders’ Summit.

Minister Mori said APEC gives an opportunity for the nation to capture the opportunities that come with it.

He encouraged people to take advantage of this historic event to establish a dialogue with investors, and create activities.

He said his department will look at creating more SMEs by 2030 and added that recent laws passed by the government to ban smoking and chewing in public places, is not because of APEC, but to discipline the people to be good citizens of this country.

People must live in a clean and healthy environment and must be proud to be a Papua New Guinean. As a response to the continuous outcry by the public, Minister Mori, under his department, has banned foreigners from selling counterfeit made products such as bilums and other artifacts in their shops.
