PNG Electoral Commissioner: 2017 General Elections Need Additional Funds

by Eric Haurupma – EM TV News, Port Moresby

PNG Electoral Commissioner, Patilias Gamato, says the Electoral Commission needs an additional K182 million to carry out the 2017 general elections.

He said this during a cheque presentation ceremony held yesterday in Port Moresby.

Gamato said recently the government has paid only K10 million of the total K192 million required to implement the election process.

He said to make early preparations for the 2017 general elections the government must pay the outstanding K182 million.

“This 10 million kina will go towards the commission’s preparations in organising polling sites to cater for the elections,” Gamato said.

Gamato said the commission has submitted a proposal to the government for the outstanding payment.
