Morobe’s Neknasi Coffee Farmers Export to Melbourne

Neknasi Coffee Growers Cooperative from Boana in the Morobe Province, have began piling their coffee bags for export at Swire Shipping’s bulking facility.

After nearly seven years, the peoples cooperative will be directly exporting a container to a buyer in Melbourne in two weeks.

Neknasi Chairman, Mong Bungun says it is a milestone for the people to be awarded an export license.

Its a significant moment for a cooperative that has come very far since it was formed in 2008. It was fotmed to pay for school fees.

Mong Bungun – a teacher by profession was part of that success story.

Yesterday, they brought coffee bags to fill a container leaving for Melbourne in two weeks’ time.

Neknasi has become renowned for their contributions to Morobe Coffee export.

Morobe is contributing roughly thirty thousands coffee bags for export.

The Swire Coffee Bulking Facility houses much of the bags.

Swire Coffee Bulking Manager, Anthony Klink says the company is willing to support more local cooperatives.
