National Court Orders Recount of Sandaun Governor’s Seat

By Stanley Ove Jnr – EMTV News, Port Moresby

The National Court has ordered a recount of votes for the West Sepik Regional seat.

The decision was handed down yesterday(September 19), in Vanimo, after petitions from runner-up candidates Amkat Mai and Simon Solo over counting discrepancies.

The court ordered for a recount to start on the 5th of November, and to run until the 21st with sitting Governor Tony Wouwou to remain in office during that period.

The Sandaun Governor’s seat is the first regional seat, after the 2017 elections, to be ordered to a recount by the National Court.

Governor Tony Wouwou is yet to appeal the ruling.
