Multi-million Kina Convention Centre Project Ceased Construction

The multi-million kina Convention Centre project site in Port Moresby has received added security manpower following a criminal attack on Chinese workers last month.

 

Work atthe Chinese fundedInternational Convention Centre project in Port Moresby has ceased temporarily.

Traumatized Chinese nationals workingthere have leftthe country afterthey were attacked by more than ten men on July 13th.

 

Police are now stationed atthe site to manthe place day and nightowith only three national workers.

 

Ten officers from different command stations in Port Moresby have been assigned to provide added security. They have been stationedthere for almost a month.

 

Recently,the National Planning ministry handed over keys to a ten-seater vehicle, tothe RoyaPNG Constabulary to assistthe officers on duty.

 

ChiefInspector Dukaduka said eight ofthe criminals have been caught and charged, thers have yet to be apprehended.

 

Whilethe construction company CJIC is arrangingthe return of its construction workers, Counselor Zhang Liyong of Chinese Embassy has given assurance tothPNG government that China will continuethe project and do its best to assisPNG in futher developments.

 

The project began last year and is estimated at a cost of up to 70 million kina. It is by far, China’s single largest project in PNG It is being built in preparation for the 2015 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation meeting.
