Luship Strike, Passengers Stranded

More than a hundred passengers bound for Finschhafen and Siassi were left stranded for three days followingthe strike that began overthe weekend.

“The Ltheran shipping is incompetent”, said a stranded passenger.
Bet an employee ofthe shipping company saidthey have no authority overthe problems asthe issue is withthe management ofthe company.

 

Beththe ground employees and seamen withdraw from work after learning thatthey were not paid.

 

An employee ofthe shipping company, who didn’trsquo;t want to be named, saidthe strike stems from complaints laid againstthe CEO, Agua Nombri.

 

The workers claimed Mr. Nombri has altered bank signatures that made it difficult for payments to be made tothe workers’ accounts.

 

Employees ofthe Ltheran shipping company in Lae have carrlied out a sit-in strike calling onthe management to endthe internal power struggle.

 

Crewmembers ofthe ships have not been paid after existing financial arrangements were changed.

 

All Ltheran shipping vessels that provide services to some ofthe outer islands inthe Morobe Province have been grounded since Saturday.

 

Seaman and ther members ofthe shipping company saythey will only resume work ifthey are paid.

 

The management ofthe shipping can’t be reached for an official comment but it’s understoodthe management are negotiating withthe seaman to havethe services restored.

 

Meanwhile, it is not clear if services will resume today.
