Katua to Represent PNG at Rio Olympics

The Commonwealth Youth Games and Pacific Games gold medalist, Thadius Katua, will represent PNG in Rio Olympics on August 5-21.

Katua, 22, will compete in the lightweight category among boxers from Fiji, Jordan, Vanuatu and Zambia with 250 male boxers who are due to compete at the games following a decision made by the Olympic Tripartite Commission.

Katua was given a spot after five invitational places were awarded to countries for boxing competition at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, a decision made by the International Boxing Association.

The 2016 Olympic Games will see professional boxers compete for the first time.
